Description
What is Carbon Fiber?
Carbon Fiber is a polymer and is sometimes known as graphite fiber. It is a very strong material that is also very lightweight. Carbon fiber is five-times stronger than steel and twice as stiff. Though carbon fiber is stronger and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel; making it the ideal manufacturing material for many parts. These are just a few reasons why carbon fiber is favored by engineers and designers for manufacturing.
Carbon Fiber Tubes
The carbon fiber tubes are ideal for both hobbyists and industry professionals. Using the stiffness of carbon fibers, an extremely stiff yet lightweight tubular structure can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Carbon fiber tube configuration shape – the most common carbon fiber tubes are square, rectangular and round. Rectangular and square profiles are often referred to as “box girders”. The carbon fiber box girder provides excellent structural rigidity and simulates two parallel I-beams.
Carbon fiber tubes are used in numerous applications like tactical ladders, trusses, beams, and more. Carbon fiber is typically chosen over traditional materials such as aluminum, steel, and titanium because of the following properties:
- High strength and stiffness to weight
- Excellent resistance to fatigue
- Dimensional stability: Low CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion)
- Resistance to corrosion
- X-Ray transparency
- Chemical resistivity
